Our Story

It started with a warm smoked olive at a brew pub in San Francisco.

Chris and Paula were on holiday, sharing a plate of something they'd never encountered before — olives, served warm, with a depth of flavour that neither of them could place. They were trained chefs. They'd owned a gourmet food store. They knew food. And they knew immediately they'd never tasted anything quite like it.

They came home to British Columbia and spent years trying to track down smoked olives to buy. Nothing. The product simply didn't exist in Canada in any meaningful way.

So they made them themselves.

A smoker was purchased. Mistakes were made. A lot of olives were eaten. And then — after considerable trial, error, and more than a few late nights — the process came together. Cold-smoked over hardwood, jarred in a clean salt brine, and tasted until it was exactly right.

A bottle of wine later, they had a name: Fume-eh.

What started as an obsession in a home kitchen is now a small-batch brand shipping across Canada and the United States. The range has grown from those first smoked olives to include Castelvetranos, Sun-Dried Kalamatas, Artichoke Hearts, and three distinct tapenades — each one cold-smoked over hardwood, made without shortcuts, and crafted the way Chris and Paula would want it served at their own table.

Fume-eh is still a family operation. Every jar reflects the same standard that started it all: if it doesn't taste like something genuinely worth seeking out, it doesn't leave the kitchen.

We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
